Located in southeastern San Francisco, California, Bernal Heights is a residential neighborhood known for the prominent Bernal Heights hill overlooking the San Francisco skyline. Notable features of the area include the namesake Bernal Heights Hill and its radio tower, as well as its surrounding parkland.
Local legend claims that a group of con artists planted traces of gold along the hilltop in 1876, triggering a mini gold rush. The population later grew after the 1906 earthquake displaced many of San Francisco’s residents. The hilltop is still a major drag to the city, as it is now home to the massive radio tower and a diverse urban ecosystem with many native wildflowers.
